Nine Below Zero live at Blues Kitchen, Camden 25/9/2014

It was a case of déjà vu as Nine Below Zero turned back the clock for the opening night of their biggest UK tour in decades.
At the intimate Blues Kitchen in Camden, with a stage just about big enough to swing a Fender Strat, it felt just like the band's glory days playing at venues such as The Marquee.
Playing in front of just 200 fans, selected by ballot, the classic line-up, including Mickey Burkey on drums, played tracks exclusively from their first three albums.
Dennis Greaves once described their early gigs as 'like being at a football match'. And that was what it felt like on Thursday night. Only without the corporate hospitality and prawn cocktail sandwiches.
Fans came from far and wide, to recapture the sheer power and energy of a band who have lost none of their dynamism and musicianship... albeit 35 years on from when they started. One man had travelled all the way from Japan, to celebrate his 44th birthday, with his wife Helen. Now if that wasn't a cue for a song....
Friends who had not seen each other in years were reunited. I was lucky to have been there, the night Live At The Marquee was recorded, and as I looked around the crowd, I saw faces – although a bit older – I'm sure I recognised.
